What is EICR Testing and Certification?
EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report. It is an assessment of the electrical systems within a property. It ensures that national standards for electrical safety are met, which are set out in the 18th edition of the ‘Wiring Regulations’. The testing checks all fixed electrical installations in a property are safe. These include wiring, wall sockets, light fittings and the fuse box.
The electrician inspecting the property will check for:
- Any defective work / workmanship
- Overloaded electrical installations
- Potential fire hazards and shock risks
- Lack of earthing or bonding on installations
“If you are renting out a property in England that was entered into on or after the regulations came into force (1 June 2020), then from 1 July 2020 you will be required to have an electrical inspection and a report on the condition of the property (EICR) performed by a qualified person.” – Residential Landlords Association
How long does an EICR Certificate last?
5 years. This is the standard length. However, you may replace it as frequently as needed to ensure the property is safely maintained.
